Free Hugs – Botswana 2013
Research shows that hugs are good for us. They release dopamine, lower blood pressure and the heart rate. There are many other benefits to giving someone a hug, including:
- Help someone open up emotionally
- Make someone feel accepted
- Improve the immune system
- Relieve stress
Free Hugs started in Australia and is inspired by the real- life controversial story of Juan Mann, a man whose sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives. In this age of global social disconnectedness and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign was immediate and phenomenal.
As these gestures, each a symbol of human hope, spread across the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What was then witnessed is the true spirit of global humanity coming together in what can only be described as awe inspiring. Have a look at it in action below.
